First night of the Lake Takanassee 5k series!!
Good turn-out for a first night. Good to see you Carl, Lizzie, Taylor, Keith and newcomers Katie and Luz. In case you have never done this run, it was four laps around the lake, which is right on Ocean Ave. in Long Branch. I encouraged everybody to run nice and easy for the first night. Carl and I ran 8 minute miles and finished under 26. It was a bit muggy but not too hot.

I hope to see more of you in two weeks for the next run. Start time is 6:45, not 7:00. If we sign-in together, registration will be $1!!

By the way, feel free to post a comment on my runs or what you all are doing to start getting in shape.

Saturday was a great day for a run wherever you were. I did the 5 mile run to benefit the police officer shot in Lakewood. It was a 1-loop run around Lake CaraSalJo. What I liked about it most was that it started downhill and was under a lot of trees. I finished in 39:37 which was a big improvement from my Thursday run.  Post race included free food from QDoba, RedBull and Vita Loca. I would definitely do this run again.

Big run on Saturday so I tested out the lungs and knees. I ran 5 miles on the road in preparation for the "Miles for Matlosz" on Saturday. I averaged about 9 min./mile which isn't too bad for me on a longer distance. Hopefully I can do that on Saturday through the hills of Lake CaraSalJo.

Nothing 2.5 miles at 7am to wake you up! Got to run without the stroller so I was much more relaxed. I definitely encourage running with an iPod. I'm a big fan of Pandora which has music separated by categories. I have been running to "DubStep" lately. I think its good music to keep a steady pace. At this point, try to keep relaxed; don't let your breathing get too fast or you'll cramp-up and run out of gas quickly.

I ran 3 miles with a jogging stroller. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's a baby stroller with some big wheels that make it go smooth at higher speed than walking. I have been tyring to get used to this as it is pretty hard to run with your arms still. Thinking about it more, maybe it's not so bad since it also makes you keep your back straight. I ran 2.5 miles in 20 minutes which isn't horrible considering the handicap but my son loved so I can chalk-up another move in the right direction.

Whether you run with a jogging stroller or not, focus on your form.... Keep your back straight, arms at your waist, moving forward and paralell to the ground.

I'm going to try to log all my runs with and without the team. Hopefully this gives you an idea of what we are doing and how progress is being made. Feel free to congratulate me on a good run or tell me to push a little harder...

Today I ran 5 miles nice and easy on the road in 48 minutes. I only planned on doing 4 miles but once I got to 2 miles, I decided I wanted my half-way point to be a little further. I did stop for a stretch at the half and finished nice and relaxed. My cool-down was 10 minutes of swimming in the pool. It felt great after not running for about a week.
